Women web portal launched

PESHAWAR: A non-governmental organization Blue veins organized a function at the Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday to launch web portal of the Provincial Commission on the Status of Women.

The activity was arranged the under a project “Policy advocacy and research to strengthen implementation of pro-women legislation and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) response services in KP” with assistance from Australian Government and Trócaire.

The aim was to explain the features of the website which contains information on the commission, including its mandate, day-to-day activities and efforts to empower women of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Blue Veins Programme Coordinator Qamar Naseem , commission Chairperson, Neelum Toru and coordinator, Abdul Qadir, were present.

Qamar Naseem said: “National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) are now, beyond any doubt, valued as essential actors in the task of protecting and promoting human rights at the national and regional levels.

“To this end, they must work with one another to meet evolving developments and challenges in the exercise of human rights by all. The NHRIs should take a proactive approach to ensure that this new space remains an enabling one for the exercise of human rights”

Neelum Toru said information about the commission, its functioning, responsibilities and other activities had been uploaded on the website.
