LAHORE
CIA police claimed to have arrested three activists of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) involved in the kidnapping of a student for ransom from Iqbal Town.
The ransom money Rs 60 million was to be used to finance terrorist activities of the TTP in different cities. The banned outfit activists were arrested by a special police team. They were identified as Munawar Khan, Akram Mansoori and Iqbal Farooqi.
The accused along with their accomplices had kidnapped Fawad Khan, a student of BSc Engineering. He is the son of Muhammad Ishfaq, vice-principal of Post-Graduate College, Mianwali.
The accused took the victim to Bannu and wanted to take him to Waziristan when security forces raided and recovered the victim from their custody.
Officials of security forces arrested many accomplices of the accused and recovered illegal weapons from their custody. But the main accused Hafiz Munawar Khan, Akram Mansoori and Iqbal Farooqi had managed to flee.
The case was handed over to CIA police. DSP Tariq Ilyas Kiyani, in charge Kidnapping for Ransom Cell, started interrogation and took information and call records between the accused and the victim’s family. The DSP worked professionally and arrested main accused Hafiz Munawar Khan.
During investigation, Hafiz Munawar revealed that TTP commander Mutee-ur-Rehman had assigned him the task to kidnap the son of the vice principal Post-Graduate College, Mianwali to demand ransom from him to finance their terrorist activities.
Following the instructions, he along with Akram Mansoori, Iqbal Farooqi, Maulana Muhammad, his local accomplices and Hakeem Ullah, Sajjad Khan and others from Waziristan made a plan to kidnap the victim Fawad Khan and take him to Bannu. Police arrested the accused Akram Mansoori and Iqbal Farooqi on his identification.
Accused Sajjad Khan, Hakeem Ullah and Abid Ullah Khan are in Bannu Jail. They are being brought to Lahore for further interrogation.
Man arrested: The FIA Lahore raided the Hall Road Lahore on Thursday and arrested Imran Ahad who was found involved in illegal business of Hundi Hawala and transfer of funds.
According to FIA sources, the raiding team also recovered worth Rs 1580,000 prize bonds besides receipts, laptop, CPU and cheque books from his possession. Imran was arrested from the spot and a case had also been registered against him accordingly.
Meanwhile, the FIA Immigration officials at Allama Iqbal Airport on Thursday offloaded one passenger named Nasir Iqbal of Kashmir as his name was included in the blacklist category.
Further investigations are underway.
