PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Commission on the Status of Women has demanded of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to declare the by-election of local government in Darora Union Council (UC) of Upper Dir district as null and void as women were barred from using their right to vote in the election.
Through a statement, the commission asked the ECP to declare the election null and void and announce a new date for the by-election.
The commission showed serious concern regarding barring women from their constitutional right of casting their votes in the by-election.
In this regard, it said the District Committee on the Status of Women in Upper Dir called an emergency meeting under the chairpersonship of Shagufta Bibi.
All members of the committee condemned the non-participation of a large number of women voters in the election.
