2,500 beds added to tertiary health units

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique said due to the completion of mega projects in specialized healthcare sector, approximately 2,500 beds have been increased in the tertiary health institutions. PG trainee seats have also been increased according to the ratio of beds. He said this while presiding over a meeting along with Secretary Health Najam Ahmed Shah to develop a strategy for the induction of PG doctors in 2018.

Special Secretary Health Dr Sajid Mehmood Chohan, Fatima Jinnah Medical University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, Punjab Medical University Faisalabad Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Sardar Farid Zafar, SIMS Principal Prof Mehmood Ayaz, Ameer-ud-Din Medical College Principal Prof Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab, Prof Syed Muhammad Awais, Additional Secretary Admin Raja Mansoor, Additional Secretary Technical Dr Salman Shahid, and PITB Director attended the meeting.

Najam said previously 4,000 seats of PG trainee were offered in a four-year programme. Due to the reforms introduced to health sector and adoption of online central induction policy, merit and transparency have prevailed. Due to completion of new projects, 3,500 PG trainee seats would be offered in one year which is a milestone achieved, he said and congratulated the whole team of health department on achieving this goal.

Quaid Day: A meeting to finalise the ceremonies and programmes to be organised in connection with Youm-e-Quaid (Quaid-e-Azam Day) was held here on Friday. Provincial Minister for Schools Education Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan presided over the meeting. Speaking on the occasion, he said Punjab government would observe seven-day long celebrations of Youm-e-Quaid. He said the celebrations would be held across the province to sensitise the youth and other communities about the great role played by the Father of the Nation in Pakistan Movement. Secretary Schools Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik and DGPR Punjab Shahid Iqbal briefed the meeting about details of programmes and their arrangements.
