Sybil adds four more golds to Pakistan’s medals’ tally

LAHORE: Sybil Sohail from Pakistan won four more gold medals in 47kg category of senior Oceania/Pacific Powerlifting Championship on the last and final day of four days mega event of powerlifting.

Sybil Sohail, an employee of Wapda has to struggle one and half kg reduction of her own bodyweight to enter in 47kg category competition. It was a miracle that Sybil Sohail reduced 1.5kg body weight in 12 hours and qualified for competition of 47kg category. She won Gold in Squat, Bench-Press, Dead-Lift and in total 9 all four Golds).

It is worth mentioning here that all three girls are getting international standard training at Punjab University Powerlifting & Weightlifting Academy at Punjab University Women Sports Department Old Campus, Lahore.

It is also worth mentioning here that in men categories Mahmood Heera (Wapda) won gold medal for Pakistan in 120kg category by lifting 609kg in total after a nail biting competition with Japanese powerlifter. Heera also created new National Masters-1 records in 120kg category by lifting 609kg. Heera previously held a National record of 590kg in total.

2015 Asian bronze medalist, Police team powerlifter Syed Nadeem Hashmi did an excellent piece of performance by lifting 530kg in total which was good enough to win gold medal in 105kg Masters-1.

Muhammad Ahmed Khan, a student of University of Agriculture Faisalabad, also got gold medal in 120kg 9 Sub-Junior Class. Overall, Pakistan eight-member men & women powerlifting team won 15 gold and one silver medal in 2017 Oceania-Pacific Powerlifting Championships held at Park Avenue Convention Center, Changi, Singapore.
