NAROWAL: Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal on Sunday said four or five resignations from the PML-N legislators would not affect the government.
Addressing a ceremony here on Sunday, he said political opponents were busy pulling the government’s legs through different tactics and added that the PML-N government would complete its tenure. He asserted that Pakistan did not need protests in the current scenario. The nation knew that sit-ins were being staged only to hinder the progress of the country. He said if elections were held in 60 or 90 days, no one would be able to stop the PML-N from victory.
He said a conspiracy was being hatched to bring a caretaker government for a long period, but it was not possible. He urged the opposition parties not to become part of the conspiracy and wait for their turn as Pakistan needed unity and solidarity.
He said the government has managed to eliminate terrorism to a large extent. "The government has curtailed terrorism to a large extent and the people in Pakistan are now spending peaceful lives," he said.
On electricity deficit and subsequent loadshedding in the country, he claimed Pakistanis were now being provided an uninterrupted power supply for 22 hours. "There used to be a 22-hour loadshedding schedule in the past, but the situation has changed now," he said, adding that Pakistan was faced with many international conspiracies.
"Our enemies are afraid of our economic development. Pakistan is an atomic power and can become an international power to reckon with if it becomes an economic power as well. Pakistan's economic progress can only be halted by political chaos and internal conflicts."
