LAHORE: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has received recognition for implementing new regulations regarding house job and internship in hospitals. The Irish Medical Council, Ireland and General Medical Council, UK, have appreciated the newly-implemented house job regulations in Pakistan by PMDC through the SRO 2016.
According to a press release issued here on Tuesday, PMDC President Prof Dr Shabbir Lehri told journalists that the GMC, UK and Irish Medical Council had accredited the PMDC house job regulations which would consist of residential, full time and structured and would be based on four modules of three months each.
He said that the first module would be done in medicine, the second in medical allied departments, the third in general surgery and the fourth module in surgical allied departments. The PMDC president said the GMC and Irish Medical Council had also agreed to accept the Pakistani doctors' house job training equivalent to internship in Ireland and UK. Those doctors who have already completed their house jobs in Pakistan under the 2016 regulations will not have to repeat house job in UK and Ireland. Prof Shabbir Lehri said the new regulations were in line with international standards and practices.
He said that several innovative steps had been taken by the council, including improvement in the standards of medical and dental colleges. He said surprise visits and monitoring were being done to ensure implementations of PMDC regulations in the colleges. Penalties are being imposed on medical and dental colleges on violating the PMDC rules, he added.
