Two hit to death by speeding truck

LAHORE: Two persons were crushed to death by a speeding truck in a road accident in the Lytton Road police limits on Monday.
The victims have been identified as Bashir Ahmad, 54, a resident of Shahdara, and his friend Mushtaq, 56, a resident of Ravi Road. Bashir worked in PWD and is survived by a widow and eight children while Mushtaq was a shopkeeper and a father of six children. On the day of the incident, they were returning home on a bike after attending Mehfil-e-Milad. As they reached near Lytton Road, a speeding truck hit their bike. As a result, both of them received multiple injuries and died on the spot. The truck driver fled the scene. Police reached the scene, collected forensic evidence and removed the body to morgue. A case has been registered against accused driver.
FIRE: Valuables worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes when a fire erupted in a godown in the Ravi Road police limits on Monday.Firefighters of Rescue 1122 reached the scene and controlled the fire. Rescuers said fire had erupted in the godown of gunny bags due to short circuit. As a result, bags worth lakhs of rupees were reduced to ashes. However, no loss of life or injury to anyone was reported.
CHEQUES: SSP Admin Rana Ayaz Saleem has distributed cheques of 2.6 crore among widows of 14 police officials at CCPO office. On this occasion, the SSP said Lahore Police has made SMS service of Welfare Eye software to facilitate the families of martyrs and late Police officials. Every police official of Lahore Police is our asset and we appreciate their services.
We will not let them stay along, he said and directed the staff of welfare eye to keep in touch with the widows of police officials and ensure to help them at every cost. Widows of 14 police officials have appreciated the efforts of CCPO Muhammad Amin Wains and SSP Rana Ayaz Saleem.
EXPAT GETS POSSESSION OF PLOT: Due to the efforts of Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC) Punjab, an expatriate got back possession of his plot worth Rs 10 million. Vice Chairperson, OPC, Shaheen Khalid Butt and Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti said Asrar Ahmad, settled in Harrow, United Kingdom, filed a complaint that some people have occupied his 1-kanal plot in village Samdani, Tehsil Sadiqabad, District Rahimyar Khan. The complaint was referred to District Overseas Pakistanis Committee (DOPC) Rahimyar Khan and with the help of members of DOPC and local police, the Overseas Pakistani got back possession of his land. Shaheen Khalid Butt and Afzaal Bhatti said due to the intervention of OPC, thousands of complaints of expatriate Pakistanis have been settled.
RESCUE 1122: Director General, Punjab Emergency Services (Rescue 1122), Dr Rizwan Naseer carried out a performance review of emergency operations during the month of November in all 36 districts of Punjab to ensure uniform standards of the service & smooth emergency services delivery without any discrimination.
He said the emergency data showed that average 700 (33pc of total emergencies) road traffic crashes are taking place daily in Punjab; therefore, all District Emergency Officers are directed to chalk out plans to educate citizens through awareness campaigns in their respective districts to adopt preventive measures to avoid road traffic crashes. The emergency data showed that 72,155 victims of different emergencies were rescued by the service while conducting 67,216 rescue operations in last month all over the Punjab, with average response time of 7 minutes.
The emergency calls to which Rescue 1122 responded to include: 23,495 road traffic accidents, 33,805 medical emergencies, 977 fire incidents, 1,435 crimes, 39 drowning incidents, 42 building collapses and 7,417 miscellaneous operations.
According to the statistics, majority of fire incidents occurred in major cities, including 201 fires in Lahore, 87 in Faisalabad, 68 in Rawalpindi, 55 in Multan, 71 in Gujranwala and 41 in Sialkot. Similarly, 5931 traffic accidents were reported in Lahore, 1236 in Gujranwala, 1805 in Faisalabad, 1753 in Multan and 838 in Bahawalpur.
