Model Town probe report verdict today

LAHORE: A full bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday (today) will announce the judgment on the Punjab government's appeal challenging the single bench order about publication report of Justice Ali Baqar Najafi into the 2014 Model Town tragedy.
The bench led by Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh and comprising Justice Syed Shahbaz Ali Rizvi and Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmad after conclusion of arguments on November 24 had reserved the verdict.
A single bench comprising Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi on September 21 had ordered Punjab home secretary to public the `Justice Najafi report’ and also provided a copy to the families of those killed and injured in the incident.
The Punjab government had filed appeal against single bench verdict. At least 14 people died and 85 others got injured when clash erupted between police and PAT workers over the issue of barriers put outside Minhajul Quran Secretariat in June, 2014.
security: Majlis-i-Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM) leader Nasir Abbas Sherazi has pleaded the court to order the police to provide him sufficient security. Nasir Abbas Sherazi who reached home few days back after he went missing a month ago, made appearance before the Lahore High Court on Monday.
Lahore High Court Bar Association’s vice-president Rashid Lodhi told the court that life of Sherazi was still in danger and he needed police security.He asked the court to order the police to provide sufficient security to the MWM leader. Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin Ahmad, however, directed the counsel to approach relevant authority for the provision of the police security.
