Lahore Gymkhana clinch golf title

LAHORE: Lahore Gymkhana prevailed over Defence Raya on the final day to claim the Lahore Golf Cup played here at Royal Palm Golf and Country Club.
The first Lahore Golf Cup competitive event which represented a clash between the 20 member golfing team of Royal Palm, twenty of Defence Raya and a similar number of Lahore Gymkhana came to a nerve shattering conclusion after three days of battle, with first round played at Royal Palm on Friday, the second at Defence Raya on Saturday and the final round at Gymkhana Golf Course yesterday. That Lahore Gymkhana finally won and prevailed over the Defence Raya team with an advantage of one and half points is owed to destiny and the combined efforts of the Gymkhana team who applied their abilities to the maximum to end up successful and thereby achieve glory.
In the overall reckoning Gymkhana managed to accumulate a three days aggregate of 72 points as against 70.5 points compiled by their nearest rivals, Defence Raya. Royal Palm did not fare well and could gather only 37.5 points.
This championship happens to be a brain child of Lt Gen Tariq and reminds us of the traditional clash between the cricketing teams of Govt College and Islamia College which generated considerable interest a few decades back and now the same vigor and energy has travelled to the golfing arenas of Lahore.
The 20 member Lahore Gymkhana Team captained by Amir Mehmood, secured the Lahore Cup 2017 in this Inter Club Golf Championship at the Gymkhana Golf Course yesterday by adding 24.5 points to their previous two days tally of 47.5 points which tilted the scales in their favor giving them an aggregate of 72 points as against 70.5 built up by the Defence Raya team.
For the Gymkhana Golf Team, the team members who added two points each by virtue of dominating performances on Sunday were Salman Jehangir, Qasim Khan, Ahsan Khawaja, Umer Soofi, Kh Jehanzeb, Naveed Sharif, Hasan Sami, Rao Usman, and Azmat Lodhi. Other contributions came from Tanwir Najm and Shehryar Anwar who fetched 1.5 points each. The single point contributors were Waleed Zubair, Farooq Khan, and Asim Zafar.
The Defence Raya team caused tremors through the performances of Omer Salamat, Ahmed Rafi, Ahmed Jibran, Khurram Khan, Umer Chaudry, Danyal Lashari and Mikail Majid. All of them crushed their opponents to add two points each to the team total. Whereas the team Captain Dr Dildar Chaudry contributed 1.5 points, Haroon Arshed also added 1.5 points. Single points were chipped in by Imran Ahmed, Jamal Nasir, Majid Mushtaq, Col Ikram, Umer Chaudry, Shahid Siddique and Dr Shafqat.
The champion who stood out for Royal Palm on Sunday was the rising fourteen year old star Damil Ataullah. He beat his senior rivals like Wazir Ali and Zunair Aleem to appear as the best team member of Royal Palm. Dr Tashbeeb was another one to shine for Royal Palm and so did their Captain, Lt Gen M.Tariq. Interestingly this championship has brought a wind of change as two fourteen year olds, Damil and Mikhail demonstrated their talent admiringly well.
At the conclusion of the Lahore Cup Golf Championship, the winning trophy was handed over to the winning Captain of Gymkhana, Amir Mehmood by Dr Dildar Ch, captain of the Defence Raya team, in the presence of Shaukat Javed, Convenor Golf and Asim Zafar, Chief Operating Officer of Gobi Paints, the sponsors.
