Development partners urged to help with TVET reforms

Islamabad : We hope that our donors and development partners will come forward to provide assistance in establishing the world class training institutes and upgrading the existing training facilities.
This was stated by National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) Executive Director Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema during the Eighth Donors Coordination Meeting here at the NAVTTC headquarters here on Wednesday.
The representatives of the European Union, USAID, German, GIZ, Norwegian, Italian, JICA and Qatari donors and development partners attended the meeting. "The NAVTTC, which is spearheading the TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) reforms in the country in partnership with various TVET sector organisations at federal and provincial levels, has achieved a number of milestones under the National Skill Strategy," Zulfiqar Cheema said.
He briefed the members about the recent initiatives of the NAVTTC, including arranging skill competitions across the country, increasing the number of trainees to 100,000,becoming a member of WorldSkills International, establishment of job placement centres in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi, launching Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) system, Competency Based Training, introduction of modern assessment system and many others.
Zulfiqar Cheema appreciated the efforts and contribution of the members to boost the TVET sector of Pakistan and emphasized on active and increased participation of the donors and development partners.
He added that the NAVTTC was committed to impart technical and vocational training to youth of the country especially of backward areas, to boost their morale and confidence level and make them useful citizens of the country and to enable them to earn sustainable livelihood.
"Our special focus is on imparting high quality training to our young boys and girls so that they are in a better position to secure jobs in the CPEC projects and for that several plans are under consideration," he said.
In this meeting, several reforms for implementation of Competency Based Training, training of teachers and assessors, increased involvement of private sector, and imparting state of the art training to the youth in the demand driven marketable trades also came under discussion.
The donors and foreign experts appreciated the NAVTTC's initiative for establishing job placement centres and organising skill competitions across the country. They applauded the performance of NAVTTC during the last two years and promised full cooperation for revitalising the current training system.
