LAHORE: The PML-N top leadership met at Jati Umra on Saturday and discussed the crisis faced by their party’s government in Islamabad that spread to other parts of the country and the overall political strategy regarding the pressing issues before the 2018 elections.
PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif chaired the meeting which was attended by Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, federal cabinet members Khawaja Saad Rafique and Marriyum Aurangzeb, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah and Hamza Shahbaz.
The meeting reviewed the Islamabad operation and the situation stemming from it, among other issues. The prime minister and the PML-N head discussed at length the probable ways to contain the rapidly exacerbating situation vis-à-vis the Tehreek-e-Labaik sit-in.
The meeting continued for over four hours while the situation appeared to be getting worse by the hour, with the sit-ins and protest spreading to all major cities of the country. The meeting also discussed the party strategy regarding future mass public meetings, the Senate elections and the progress on developing consensus on the census held early this year.
