One-day live workshop on Micro-PCNL and RIRS today

Rawalpindi: Department of Urology Rawalpindi Medical College is organising a one-day international workshop on Micro-PCNL and Retrograde Intra-renal Surgery (RIRS) here on Thursday (today) at Benazir Bhutto Hospital.
Professor of Urology at RMC Dr. Mumtaz Ahmed would be course director for the workshop that would be conducted by eminent urologist and world renowned expert from Italy Professor of Urology at University of Genova Dr. Francesco Germinale. Chief Physician from Department of Urology at Friendship Hospital in Beijing China has also been invited as a guest faculty for the workshop.
During the live one-day workshop, the visiting faculty would perform procedures using Micro Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and Retrograde Intra-renal Surgery on patients and impart training to young doctors particularly urologists serving in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
PCNL is the preferred technique for treating large stones, normally over 2centimetre in diameter within the kidney involving keyhole surgery that is performed through a 1cm incision in the skin overlying the kidney.
Talking to 'The News', Professor Mumtaz said that the one-day international workshop being organised at the BBH Urology Department would probably be the first of its kind in which live demonstration of one of the smallest form of PCNL that is Micro-PCNL will be performed.
