Youth, girl commit suicide

LAHORE
A youth and a girl committed suicide in different parts of the city on Wednesday.
A 9th class student ended her life by hanging herself in the Gujarpura area.
The deceased was identified as Ojala, a resident of Janipura, Gujarpura. Police said the girl was admonished by her mother for not going to tuition centre, on which she ended her life by hanging herself.
In another incident, a 20-year-old youth expired in a local hospital, two days after taking poisonous pills.
The deceased was identified as Ammar, a resident of Jameel Town, Sabzazar. Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Aslam said that Ammar had got dejected when parents of a girl with whom he intended to marry turned down his marriage proposal.
As a result, he took poisonous pills. He was admitted to Jinnah Hospital where he expired on Wednesday. However, the boy’s father said that Ammar had cut off all ties with the girl almost a year back and the incident had nothing to do with his previous relationship. Police handed over the bodies to the families.
dismissed: CTO Lahore dismissed on Wednesday three traffic wardens from service for violating department rules and for being absent from duty without informing the authorities concerned.
The dismissed wardens were Khurram, Zulfiqar and Saleem. CTO asked the traffic wardens to perform their duty religiously and educate the citizens about traffic laws.
Police pickets: In the wake of current law and order, City traffic police established 17 pickets at entry and exit points of the city.
The pickets have been established at Gajju Matta, Kot Lakhpat, Kamaha Interchange, Shera Kot, Thokar Niaz Baig, Khayaban-e-Jinnah, Bhobattian, New Ravi Bridge, Old Ravi Bridge, Saggian, Ring Road Ravi Road, Quaid-e-Azam Interchange, Harbanspura, Barki Interchange, Bhatta Chowk, Imamia Colony Phattak and Kala Khatai Morr.
As per CTO, two SPs, five DSPs, 23 inspectors, 30 patrolling officers and 166 traffic wardens will perform duty at the said pickets.
Accidents: At least 540 road traffic accidents were reported in Rescue 1122’s Provincial Monitoring Cell in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which two lives were lost and 391 seriously injured were shifted to different hospitals of the relevant district. However, some 219 minor injured were provided first aid by Rescue 1122 on the spot.
Fire: A fire erupted in the fourth floor of the PTCL building on Wednesday night due to the leakage of gas and reduced furniture to the ashes.
No loss of life or injury was reported in the incident. Four fire tenders of Rescue 1122 were moved to the scene for fire fighting. A fire-fighter said that the renovation work was under way at the floor when the fire broke out there. As a result, chairs and some other items were burnt.
Fire-fighters controlled the fire after half-an-hour. In another incident, valuables worth millions of rupees were burned to ashes when a fire erupted in a garments factory in Sherakot.
Fire brigade staff and rescue teams reached the incident site and put out the fire. The factory which belonged to Javed caught the fire due to short circuit.
