Drive against objectionable paintings: Traffic police officials directed to take high-ups into confidence

PESHAWAR: The Traffic Police authorities have stopped their cops from initiating any major action without taking the bosses into confidence.
An official of the force said that the Traffic Police had received public complaints about objectionable paintings depicting and glorifying weapons, narcotics, nudity and projection of outlaws on the public transport, especially rickshaws and trucks.
The official added that the complainants wanted the Traffic Police to initiate action as this was having negative impact on the social milieu and the youth in particular.
“Under this social responsibility context, the Traffic Police in Peshawar had launched a campaign initially to encourage the drivers of public service vehicles to voluntarily remove such pictures,” said the official. During the course of the campaign, he added, a few traffic officials in their over-enthusiasm violated their mandate and removed pictures that didn’t really violate social norms.
“The concerned officials have been stopped from these activities. They have been warned and directed to strictly follow their mandate. Traffic Police will take this opportunity to reiterate that moderation and balance is the hallmark of the KP Police and we will always strive to contribute towards a progressive and tolerant society free from the ills of weapon proliferation and narcotics addiction,” the official argued.
