ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah Wednesday said that ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif was not eligible for politics after being disqualified from the apex court as he believed if disqualified person became party chief, thieves and robbers would form political parties in future. “Though we knew the numerical strength in the National Assembly, it was not of losing but of the principle as it was our principled stance that a disqualified person is ineligible to head a political party,” he said while talking to newsmen in his chamber on Wednesday. The opposition leader said that the disqualification from the court of law not only meant that the disqualified person was not eligible for becoming federal minister or prime minister but also it showed that he could not do the politics. “If Nawaz Sharif heads his party, the government will run on the policy of the disqualified person,” he said.
In reply to a question regarding the demand of resignation from dharna protesters, Syed Khursheed Shah said he had already stated on the floor of the National Assembly that the government should seek help from the Army to end the dharna as 2 million people were made hostage due to it and it was demand of the people to resolve it. “The government should exercise its constitutional right to seek help from the army,” he said.
He said that the matter of finality of prophethood was resolved within minutes when it came before Parliament as all the political parties were on same page to settle this issue. “Islam is a religion of peace and creating troubles for the people is against the teachings of Islam,” he said.
To another question, the opposition leader said former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had the contacts with the extremists and therefore, such issues had not been raised during his tenure. “Everyone had seen how Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was weeping on the killing of Hakeemullah Mehsud,” he said.
He said the cracks had started appearing in the PML-N ranks due to which the government writ had weakened. “Ahsan Iqbal has assumed the charge of the Interior Minister when frictions have appeared in the PML-N ranks and in such a situation, the minister has also become weak and that’s why even the Rangers stopped the him from entering the court,” he said.
