Six Sigma adds value to higher education

KARACHI: The Quality Enhancement Cell of the Institute of Business Management organised a seminar on Tuesday called “Six Sigma in Higher Education”. It was largely attended by the heads of departments and faculty members of the university.
FAST Quality Enhancement Cell Manager Farrukh Idrees was invited as guest to speak on this event. Idrees highlighted the importance of Six Sigma in Higher Education and explained how defining, measuring, analysing, improving and controlling methodology helps both academia and industry towards academic and professional excellence. He underlined problems pertaining to HR (requisitions remaining unfulfilled), customer service (delay in the number of calls on the fast ring), engineering support (drafting errors), order fulfilment (customer returns due to erroneous paperwork), and finance (when time limits lapse).
The FAST official shared the significance of Six Sigma in various industries, especially in education. He also explained how business and statistics complemented each other and that how important were probability and risk factors in this regard.
Topics covered during the seminar included importance of Quality Management Systems (QMS) in the education sector, benefits of QMS for universities, QMS in Pakistan, introduction to QMS and ISO, QMS standard requirements and roadmap for implementation in education sector.
