60,000 fish released into river in Lower Dir

TIMERGARA: To increase the fish produce in the district, the Lower Dir district government on Wednesday released 60,000 rare breeding fishes at River Panjkora at Zwal Baba point. The district government had allocated Rs500,000 in its Annual Development Programme for purchase of breeding fishes.
(MPA Saeed Gul, district naib nazim Abdur Rasheed Khan, tehsil Timergara nazim Muhammad Riaz, DSP Sher Zaman and a large number of locals were also present on the occasion. “Masheer” fish seeds were released into the river,” Muhammad Rasul Khan said, adding the use of generators and electricity rods for fishing would be curbed.
He said no one would be allowed to annihilate rare species of fish and those found guilty would be dealt with iron hands. District Officer Fisheries Sajjad Khan briefed the district nazim and said that Lower Dir Fisheries Department had confiscated more than a dozen electricity generators, hundreds of fishing nets and electricity rods during the last month and fined the fishermen.
