PSL-V to have more teams

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Najam Sethi said on Wednesday that there were plans to induct more franchises in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).


Talking to reporters after the Board of Governors meeting, he said that there were plans to increase the number of teams in the fifth edition of the PSL. He also promised to bring the entire PSL to Pakistan in the next two years. But, he said, for that the capacity of stadiums also needed to be increased.


Sethi further stated that Quetta region had been assured that its players would be playing in the next edition of the league. He praised the performance of the women team and its new coach. He said Shahid Aslam had been appointed as senior manager of the women team. Sethi said that former chairman Shaharyar Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan have been made advisors to the board.


He also revealed that the far-end building of Rawalpindi Stadium would also be up-graded to have media boxes and some more stands.He stated that the audit of the first edition of PSL has been completed.


Sethi stated that in case India did not play the Test Championship with Pakistan, it would be forfeited and Pakistan would get points. “The Indian board is seeking permission from its government to play with Pakistan,” he added.


He said that the members were also taken into confidence about Pakistan and India bilateral series and were informed about the legal aspects of the dispute. “A case will be filed in the first week of January before the ICC dispute committee with a budget of one million dollars,” he revealed. He added that the ICC has made it clear that after the dispute committee the case could not be taken to any other forum. “We want to play the series with India,” he said.


“Pakistan and India matches in the FTP are deadlocked,” he said.He further stated that the up-gradation of National Stadium in Karachi was underway and he hoped to have it ready before the planned matches of the PSL 3 there.


“We have now long and short term development plans for the stadium. In the short term there is a plan to hold the final of the PSL 3 at Karachi,” he added.“The PSL 3 schedule will be announced in the next eight to 10 days,” he said and added that bringing some matches from the UAE to Pakistan increased the expenses.


Meanwhile, the board has allocated Rs1.5 billion for development projects.Chaired by Sethi, the meeting was attended by Numan Butt of Sialkot, Murad Ismail of Quetta, Shahrez Abdullah Khan of Lahore, Mansoor Masood Khan of UBL, Dr Najeeb Samie of HBL, Arif Ijaz, Amjad Ali Khan, and Secretary Ministry of IPC. Those who could not attend the meeting were Lt Gen (R) Muzamil Hussain of WAPDA and Miftah Ismail of Sui Southern Gas Company. PCB COO Subhan Ahmed was also among the participants.
