Economic losses

November 23, 2017
Over the past four years, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suffered the financial loss of Rs146 billion. This is not surprising at all as PIA has become a continuous liability for the government which is now planning to sell foreign assets of PIA to clear its debt. PIA owns Roosevelt Hotel in New York and Hotel Scribe in Paris.
PIA has recently received a bailout package of Rs13 billion to meet its expenses. Overstaffing and poor management have tarnished the image of the airline which was once known across the world for its efficient service. How long will the government take to adopt corrective measures to improve the progress of this loss-making organisation? How long will the tax money continue to be spent on something which is only the wastage of resources? It is time the government came up with a permanent solution regarding the loss-making company.
