NAB arrests ex-ETPB secretary for graft

LAHORE :National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore, Tuesday arrested former secretary of Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) in the ongoing investigation into embezzlement of Rs985 million.
According to a NAB spokesman, the arrested accused was identified as Ameer Khan Wazir who remained ETPB secretary from 2008 till 2011. NAB Lahore is investigating four different corruption cases in ETPB whereas one of them is of Rs1.870 billion investment with a Forex company.
In this graft case, he said, under the chairmanship of former chairman Asif Hashmi accused Ameer Khan Wazir managed to invest Rs985.5 million with a Forex company, whereas officials of the Forex company allegedly looted and scooted away with complete investment which had caused an enormous loss to national exchequer in alleged connivance with ETPB officials.
The spokesman said NAB Lahore has so far arrested two officials of the Forex company namely Chaudhry Muhammad Ali and Muhammad Imran and four ETPB officials, including a former secretary Junaid Ahmed and ETPB former Vice-Chairman Ch Riaz Ahmed. NAB Lahore has already filed corruption references against all the accused persons in ETPB cases.
Moreover, he added, NAB Chairman Justice (r) Javed Iqbal issued arrest warrants for Ameer Khan Wazir and in cognizance of the same NAB Lahore arrested the accused from Lahore. He said the accused Ameer Khan Wazir had two residences; one in South Waziristan and the other in Islamabad but remained in hiding in Lahore.
NAB Lahore has acquired 10 days physical remand of the accused after producing him before Accountability Court for further investigation. found dead: A man and a woman were found dead in different parts of the city on Tuesday.
A 48-year-old0 man was found dead lying near an open drain at New Mozang. The body has been removed to morgue. Meanwhile, a 60-year-old woman was found dead in the Batapur police area. She was identified as Razia of Jallo Morr. Police have handed over the body to her heirs.

scholarships: The chief traffic officer (CTO) distributed scholarship cheques among traffic cops for their children for higher education. Cheques for Rs 1.3 million were given to 27 cops whose children secured 65 percents marks in exams. The CTO said that the welfare committee was also working for the betterment of traffic wardens under the supervision of SP Traffic HQ. All kind of resources were being utilised for the welfare of traffic police, he added.
Meanwhile, the CTO directed the Road Safety Unit incharge to continue delivering lectures pertaining to traffic awareness in schools and colleges. Land reclaimed: Seventy-five Kanal land, worth Rs 300 million of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) Housing Scheme, Lahore, has been reclaimed from the illegal occupation.
