Two teenage boys were injured in a road accident in the city’s Clifton area in the early hours of Monday. Rescue officials said 17-year-old Salman Shah and 13-year-old Ubaid sustained serious injuries when a speeding vehicle rammed into their motorcycle in Clifton Block 5.
While the car sped away, both boys were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment. A day earlier, road accidents claimed the lives of two young men and, as remains the unfortunate norm, no arrests were made in connection with their deaths.
The first accident was reported in the wee hours of Sunday in Mauripur where 18-year-old pedestrian, Adil Razzak, was badly injured in an accident on Mauripur Road involving a speeding car. Adil had suffered extensive internal and external injuries and passed away on the spot.
The day’s other road mishap was reported in Manzoor Colony, in which a young man was killed and another suffered severe injuries. The victims, 21-year-old Jahanzaib Azizullah and 20-year-old Shahid Mureed, were run over by a speeding vehicle and both suffered multiple injuries. Of the two, Jahanzaib had passed away on the spot while Shahid was admitted to the JPMC where his condition remained critical.
Traffic violations
Two drivers were arrested, 636 others were fined a collective amount of Rs 3,86,500, and 653 vehicles were impounded during a campaign against traffic violations in Orangi Division. The area police impounded 13 Qingqi rickshaws and 470 CNG rickshaws that had extra seats.
As many as 15 underage and 80 without license drivers were issued challans and a collective amount of Rs 7,500 and Rs 40,000, respectively, were recovered from them. A total of 10 drivers were challaned and nine vehicles impounded on charges of driving without a road permit.
