Religious scholars discussed civic problems and the related steps to be taken for the month of Rabiul Awwal with Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar in a meeting held at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) building on Monday.
Scholars of different schools of thought also reviewed the arrangements for the gatherings and celebrations to be held on the eve of Eid Milad-un-Nabi.
In the meeting, the scholars highlighted the civic problems being faced by Karachi's citizens. They maintained that immediate measures should be taken to solve all problems related to sewerage systems, maintenance of street lights, repairing and maintenance of roads, removal of garbage and installation of standby generators near the religious processions and gatherings. The city mayor said he was aware of these problems and for this he had already issued directives to the departments concerned. He said the district administrations were also doing their work and convening meetings with religious scholars to review the situation.
Akhtar said and elected representatives were also being taken on board to play their important role in resolving such issues. He said the KMC would perform its functions in coordination with the district administration in the month of Rabiul Awwal to provide relief to the citizens.
The mayor said most of the issues regarding cleanliness, sewerage leakage, dug-up roads for development works, street lights and broken roads should be solved by the department representatives attending the meeting. “We hope that immediate action would be taken by them to solve all such issues.” He prayed that the month of Rabiul Awwal and all other months see peace and tranquility in the city and the country.
