LAHORE: A five-day national polio eradication drive will start in Punjab from today (Monday), Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Khawaja Imran Nazir said on Thursday.
According to a handout, he said the Punjab government wanted to build immunity of every child before the polio high-risk season started in May next year. "Vaccinating every child is critical to ensure that no more child suffers from the incurable disease," the minister added. Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary Ali Jan Khan said the an aggressive campaign would be launched in Rawalpindi, Lahore and South Punjab. “A polio case in Lodhran and consistent positive environmental samples in Rawalpindi indicate that children are more vulnerable in the districts,” he said.
