Sharif family’s sugar mills go to court
By Our correspondent
LAHORE: Two sugar mills owned by the Sharif family have challenged the issuance of notices by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Lahore High Court through a writ petition.
The petitioner-companies said in the petition that NAB had sought the record pertaining to purchase of sugar by Haseeb Waqas and Abdullah Sugar mills in 2007 despite the fact that LHC had already issued a stay in this matter.
They said the NAB had no authority, whatsoever, to probe into the 10-year old deal and issue notices in existence of a stay order. They said that both sugar mills purchased sugar from Pakistan Trading Cooperation after submitting tender and meeting all legal requirements. They prayed to the court to set aside the NAB notices for being illegal and unlawful.
