LAHORE: Lahore witnessed a worst traffic jam on Monday as the two main arteries-Canal Road and The Mall-were blocked when a trailer got stuck under the Waris Mir Underpass and the activists of the civil society protested at Regal Chowk.
The traffic was also clogged on the adjacent roads as commuters and road-users hurried to get some way to reach their destinations. Heavy showers, ongoing construction work at few roads and protests in front of Lahore Press Club deteriorated the situation further. The road users remained stuck for over three hours due to the traffic jam and got late from reaching their desired destinations.
Long queues of vehicles were witnessed on Canal Road. The commuters had no other option but to divert to other roads. Later, the City Traffic Police reached the scene and removed the stuck the vehicle.
Separately, the Civil Society of Lahore had planned a protest to observe the passing of two months of Peshawar school tragedy at Regal Chowk on The Mall. They started gathering there at around 3:00am that caused blockage to the traffic at The Mall. Traffic wardens failed to manage the traffic as they had no contingency plan to divert the traffic on other roads.
