A 30-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the city’s Surjani Town area on Thursday. Surjani police SHO Aqeel Ahmed said the attack took place at a petrol pump near Abdullah Morr where two men on a bike opened fire at Mubarak Bengali, son of Shamsuddin Bengali. The victim was also on a motorcycle when he was targeted.
The SHO, quoting eyewitness reports, said Bengali had pulled up at the petrol pump and had just pulled out his mobile phone, apparently to make a call, when the two assailants drove up and opened fire at him.
The attackers managed to make an unhindered getaway and Bengali was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The victim, however, soon passed away as he had been shot multiple times.
SHO Ahmed said it was most likely a targeted attack and that Bengali had been specifically called to the area by the perpetrators. The cop said investigators were looking into different leads and added that the case would soon be resolved. A postmortem had been conducted and a case registered before Bengali’s body was handed over to his family last rites.
