PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday restrained the federal government from appointing new chief executive Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) till next orders of the court.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Roohul Amin Khan and Justice Lal Jan Khattak issued the orders. The bench directed the federal government to submit reply before March 3 - the next date for hearing of the writ petition challenging the new appointment. The All Pakistan Hydro Union, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter through its president Gohar Taj and general secretary Mustajab Khan had challenged the new Pesco chief appointment process by the federal government.
The petitioners’ lawyer Muhammad Ijaz Anwar submitted before the bench that Pesco is a limited company and all the matters related to its appointment and promotions were run by its Board of Directors (BoD). Under the rules, he submitted, the BoD decided the new chief executive of the company.
