KARACHI: Almost all issues have been settled between the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) regarding the latter’s rejoining the Sindh government, The News has learnt.
Sources in the PPP told The News that the only issue left unresolved was the MQM’s support for the PPP candidate in the Senate election. The PPP has been communicated that the decision to support its candidate in the election for the Senate chairman will be decided later.
The PPP central leadership took its Sindh leadership into confidence on the fresh accord and power-sharing formula with the MQM.Sources said some party leaders expressed their reservations about the MQM’s rejoining of the Sindh government but the central leadership told them that it was in favour of peace and harmony in Sindh.
The MQM demanded the signing of an agreement which was accepted.Earlier, the MQM had demanded the Home Department or Local Government department and four positions of advisers and full administrative control of the municipal corporations of Karachi and Hyderabad and the Water and Sewerage Board but after the negotiations it agreed on the previous position (health and industries departments, two advisers and full administrative control of the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC), Karachi Water Board and four zonal municipal committees of Karachi). The PPP Senator Saeed Ghani told The News that he knew about the agreement between the two parties, but would not share details with the media.
