Heavy rain in Lahore inundates low-lying areas

LAHORE: Heavy rain hit the city on Wednesday, which brought traffic to a standstill for hours, and caused inconvenience for the people particularly living in low-lying areas. 

The rain started at noon. Rainwater inundated Ferozpur Road, Canal Bank Road, MM Alam Road, Jail Road, Lawrence Road, Habibullah Road, Queen’s Road, Davis Road, College Road, Model Town Link Road and others. 

Rainwater remained on the city roads for many hours and no official of civic departments, especially the Wasa and Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) were seen cleaning the roads or draining the rainwater. 

The Met officials said seasonal low lies over north Balochistan while strong monsoon currents are penetrating southern parts of the country and moderate currents in upper parts and Kashmir. They predicted widespread rain/thunderstorm accompanied by gusty winds (with isolated heavy to very heavy falls) in lower Sindh (Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Karachi divisions), at scattered places in Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Multan, DG Khan, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Bahawalpur divisions.

 

They added that hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country.

Rainfall was recorded at several cities including Jhang 44, Multan 26, Lahore (A/P 20, PBO 11), Islamabad (Golra 18, Saidpur 02, Z.P Trace), T.T Singh 14, Kasur 11, Sialkot (A/P 07, Cantt 01), Sargodha (PAF 06, City 01), Gujranwala, Shorkot 05, Faisalabad, Khanpur, Gujrat 03, M.B Din, Sahiwal 02, Jhelum 01, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G Khan, Okara, Joharabad Trace, Nagarparker 12, Karachi (Saddar 09, Masroor 04, University Road 01, A/P, PAF Faisal Trace), Thatta 07, Chhor 06, Mithi 05, Chachro 04, Diplo, Kaloi 02, Islamkot, Badin Trace, Muzaffarabad 12, Rawalakot 01, Balakot 03, Kakul Trace, GB: Gilgit, Bagrote Trace and Lasbella Trace.

Wednesday’s highest maximum temperature was recorded at Sibbi and Turbat where mercury reached 44°C while in Lahore it was 26°C, minimum was 24.7°C and humidity was 88 per cent.
