Mardan hospital doctors’ protest enters second day

MARDAN: The doctors at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital locked the Out-Patients Department (OPD in protest against the alleged manhandling of their colleagues at the hands of the district nazim.

The protest inconvenienced the poor patients, who came to the hospital for treatment. The people were disappointed to learn about the protest and had to go home without getting treated.

The protesting doctors demanded the arrest of District Nazim Himayatullah Mayar, who allegedly manhandled a doctor at the DHQ hospital on Monday.

Meanwhile, talking to reporters, Himayatullah Mayar said he had not manhandled doctors at the hospital.

Rather he added that he had politely requested the doctors to treat the injured people, but they didn’t listen to him. 

The district nazim asked the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court to take notice of the incident and order the registration of a case against the doctors for their negligence.   

He dispelled the reports that he had thrashed or manhandled the doctors.

“Being the district nazim, I am supposed to act on the complaint of the general people,” he maintained.

on the complaint of the doctors.

Meanwhile, speaking to a press conference, Dr Shakeel demanded the local administration to register the FIR against Himayatullah Mayar on behalf of the medical superintendent of the DHQ hospital under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

He demanded the local administration to provide protection to the doctors. 

On the occasion, the doctors announced to continue boycott of duty except for providing emergency cover to patients. 

Dr Pervez Durrani, Dr Abid, Dr Rang Ali and doctors from the Mardan Medical Complex were also present.
