44 to contest NA-120 by-polls
LAHORE
Forty-four candidates will contest NA-120 by-polls as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday displayed a final list of candidates along with their allocated symbols.
The ECP had received nomination papers of 61 aspirants for contesting the election in NA-120, a seat which fell vacant after the disqualification of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Panama case. The returning officer, Rao Shahid, had rejected nominations of five aspirants while 11 withdrew their nominations due to different reasons. Now, 44 are in the run including PML-N’s Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, PTI’s Dr Yasmin Rashid, PPP’s Faisal Mir, JI’s Zia Uddin and 40 others.
As per ECP statistics, 321,786 voters are registered in NA-120, who will cast their vote on September 17 in 220 polling stations. The ECP has also decided to deploy army in and outside polling stations.
