Regulation of transport fares ordered
KARACHI: In view of the expected increase in domestic travel on account of Eidul Azha, the Sindh Transport and Mass Transit Department on Monday issued orders stressing the need for effective regulation of public transport fares.
The three-day religious festival is due to be observed across the country starting September 2 and inflated transport fares and unchecked overcharging in times of increased travel remains an unfortunate reality.
To curb the practice, the transport department has directed all relevant officers to ensure that transporters and operators of inter- and intra-city routes within their respective jurisdictions implement the fare structure approved by the government. The provincial transport authority has also warned of initiating strict action against violators.
