Police kill two dacoits in encounter

LAHORE: Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) killed two dacoits in an encounter while two others managed to flee.

A PHP team Jalla Chowk got information that four dacoits are looting commuters on a road, the PHP team reached the spot. The dacoits opened fire on the team, which was retaliated. As a result, two dacoits were killed. PHP cracked down on various outlaws and registered 397 cases. A PHP team arrested and registered 351 cases against traffic violators while seized 6 motorbikes on using fake registration number plates. Meanwhile, a PHP team arrested 9 culprits for doing one wheelie. A PHP team arrested 8 drunk people, 23 culprits on fixing prohibited gas cylinders.

Two booked: Federal Investigation Agency Lahore on Wednesday raided a shop located at The Mall, near Naqi Market, and registered a case against two persons for running illegal business. According to an FIA official, the raiding team found involved accused persons Rab Nawaz and Muhammad Farooq Saleem in alleged illegal business of hundi/hawala.  The raiding team, he said, recovered Rs400,000, receipts/ledgers regarding hundi/hawala and record of international receipts was also taken into possession. A case has been registered against the accused but no one could be arrested as yet.

dies: A 70-year-old woman was killed by a speeding car in the Gujjarpura area on Wednesday. The woman, yet to be identified, was crossing a road when a rashly driven car hit and killed her. Police have arrested the car driver, Ahmad.

wardens: City Traffic Police has launched a mobile service to provide bottles of cold drinking water to the traffic wardens. According to CTO, the mobile service would approach wardens at different city points.
