Two robbers involved in Kharadar bank heist arrested
Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested two suspects who were allegedly involved in robbing a bank situated in the city’s Kharadar area.
Under the supervision of DSP Zahid Hussain Siddiqui, police said, a team had been tasked with arresting perpetrators who looted an Al Baraka Bank branch on August 9 this year.
After completing due diligence and consolidating the information collected, the police team apprehended two suspects who were identified as Maqsood Ahmed and Zahid Mehmood, police said, adding that Rs135,000 and two TT pistols were found in their possession.
During interrogation in an investigation unit, the suspects disclosed the names of their three associates, police said, adding that a hunt had been launched to nab the remaining robbers. The two men also confessed to commit over 200 robberies in different parts of the city, police said. They had earlier been arrested eight times but they had obtained bail every single time, police added,
Rangers detain 10 suspects
The Sindh Rangers arrested 10 suspects, including three activists of two political parties, during different raids in the city.
The spokesman for the paramilitary force said the Rangers personnel arrested three persons during raids in Defence, Saudabad and Taimuria areas. The suspects were moved to the Rangers headquarter, he said, and two of them – identified as Abdul Wahab alias Mota and Shahzad Raza – were activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) London, while the third one, Shahid Sharif, belonged to the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM) Haqiqi.
The three men were involved in target killings, extortion, and forcible collection of fitra, he added. In separate raids, the paramilitary forces held three more suspects – Fayyaz Murad, Ali Baloch and Faraz Ahmed – in Iqbal Market and Nazimabad areas, he said.
The three men were members of the Lyari gang war, he said, and they told the investigators during interrogation that they were involved in extortion, drug peddling and other crimes.
During raids in Shah Faisal Colony, Taimuria and Saudabad areas, said the spokesman, the Rangers arrested Faisal, Yousuf Khan, Adam and Taimur who were involved in street crimes, robberies and drug smuggling. Weapons, ammunitions, narcotics and looted items were found in the possession of ten arrested suspects, he said, and they had been handed over to police for further legal proceedings.
