No consensus Constitution again if it’s tampered with: Siraj
LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has said only the Constitution of Pakistan can ensure unity and harmony, and the nation will never be able to get a consensus Constitution again if its main structure was tampered with.
He regretted that a disqualified man was insisting on changing it, which could damage the unity and solidarity in the country.
Speaking at the flag-hoisting ceremony on the Independence Day at Mansoora on Monday, he said neither any general nor any political leader could become the binding force for national unity and it was only the Constitution that was keeping the people and provinces of the country together.
Siraj said leaders and workers of the JI would protect the country. He said those talking of removing articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution should instead clear their own faces from dark spots of corruption and malpractices.
He said his party would not sit back until Dr Aafia Siddiqui was released and brought back from the US. He said the JI had begun the drive against corruption when the late Qazi Husain Ahmed was alive and by now it had become the demand of the entire nation. He urged the people to renew their pledge that they would strive for the supremacy of Quran and Sunnah. Speaking on the occasion, JI Secretary General, Liaquat Baloch said independence was a great blessing of Allah and the nation should be thankful for having an independent country.
