Asad I.A. Khan re-elected as President SGA

KARACHI: Prominent architect and golfer Asad I.A. Khan has been unanimously re-elected as President of the Sindh Golf Association (SGA).

Nazim Haji was elected as the Vice President while Col Zahid Iqbal is the new secretary of the association. Other office-bearers include Ismail Ahmed (treasurer) and Ahmed Farooq (joint secretary).

The new office-bearers have been elected for a four-year term. The SGA election took place at the Karachi Golf Club.Delegates from the various clubs of Sindh attended the elections. The representatives were from KGC, DACGC, Arabian Sea Country Club, West Winds, Airmen, Dreamworld, Hyderabad golf club, Pannu Aaqil and Gul Mohar.

A total of 26 representatives from the nine clubs form the general body of the SGA. According to the constitution of the SAG, KGC has 7 votes followed by DACGC (6), ASCC (4), West Winds (2,) Airmen (2), Hyderabad (1), Pannu Aqil (1) and Gul Mohar (1).

Asad I.A Khan, who has served as secretary and vice-president in the past under the presidency of Aslam R. Khan, represents ASCC and KGC. Two of the prominent positions went to DACGC as both the secretary and treasurer belong to the club.

Over the year, Asad has been instrumental in establishing SGA as one of the most efficient and prolific provincial associations in the country.It holds regular tournaments at various clubs including three leading events — Sindh Open, Sindh Amateurs and SGA Cup.

On Sunday, Asad vowed to continue working towards the promotion of golf in the province.“Our aim is to provide a boost to the game of golf and to do that we have made various plans which we will implement in the coming years,” he told ‘The News’.

In addition, Asad said that the SGA will also continue with its policy of supporting under-privileged golfers and rewarding and honouring professionals and amateurs.He also applauded the role of outgoing secretary Ashraf Khan Ghori over his untiring efforts for the promotion of golf.

“The baton has gone to Col Zahid and all of us now hope that the young an energetic secretary will make a difference.”

Asad said that the biggest target for SGA is to set up a full-fledged secretariat. “You cannot run a sports body just on the shoulders of honorary officials and need professionals. That’s why we have finalised the appointment of a new general manager to help run day to day affairs of the association,” he said.
