Time marches on
In light of the latest development in the much-hyped and sensationalised Panama verdict, it is certain that July 28, 2017 will go down as historic in the pages of Pakistan’s political history. What came as a shocking turn of event has quickly escalated into a national celebration of sorts. Clearly the judiciary set a precedent and delivered a message that no one, not even the premier can rise above the law. But, unfortunately, our country has once again been embroiled in a political imbroglio where opponent political parties are busy hurling profanities over the ruling PML-N and vice versa.
What everyone fails to realise is the fact that our state is once again in the grip of uncertainty and turmoil. We need to prepare ourselves for street unrests and many untoward incidents in the wake of this event. Such situations need clarity of thought and reasoning which our politicians have failed to understand. It is hoped that the next person resuming office can successfully complete the many lucrative projects started under the tenure of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif as that is the need of the hour. With terrorism on the loom, burgeoning economic crisis, border tensions with the neighbours, military operations and CPEC, these petty political squabbles are the last thing we can afford. So let us collectively strive for a better and more prosperous Pakistan.
