NA summoned on Tuesday to elect interim PM
ISLAMABAD: The president has summoned the National Assembly session to meet on Tuesday (August 01) at 3pm to deal with single-point agenda of election of the new prime minister following the disqualification of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court on Friday.
The PML-N leadership following a consultative meeting and parliamentary party meeting nominated Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for the slot of the prime minister for an interim period of 45 days.
He would continue to hold the slot till Shahbaz Sharif's election as MNA from the seat in NA-120 to become permanent Prime Minister till June 4, next year.
The president has summoned the National Assembly session in exercise of powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 54 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Schedule of election: Candidates can receive nomination papers from NA Speaker office by 3pm on July 30. Nomination papers can be filed by 2pm on July 31 and the Speaker will examine papers by 3pm. The election will be held at 3pm on August 1.
