I-Day celebrations arrangements finalised

Provincial Schools Education Department has finalised the arrangements to celebrate the 70th Independence Day in a befitting manner across the province.
According to a handout issued here on Wednesday, a committee has been constituted by the Punjab government with Provincial Schools Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan in the chair and Secretary Schools Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik as secretary of the committee.
A spokesman for the Schools Education Department, in a statement, said the Independence Day celebrations will be held throughout the province from August 1 to Aug 14 under the aegis of Schools Education Department. On August 14, special prayers will be offered for the prosperity of the country after Fajr prayers and national flags would be hoisted at school buildings. Different functions will be held in the schools to sensitise the students about the historical background of Pakistan Movement and the strong role played by Muslim students in it.
The spokesman said that provincial metropolis would be decorated with colorful buntings and people from all walks of life including teachers, students and members of the minority communities will be invited to the I-Day functions. The purpose of the activities is to inform the youth about great sacrifices of Muslims of the Subcontinent for the creation of a separate homeland so that they could play their active role in making Pakistan as leading economic power in the world, the spokesman added.
Earlier, a meeting chaired by Punjab Minister for Schools Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad reviewed arrangements in connection with the celebrations of Independence Day at Civil Secretariat on Wednesday.
According to a handout issued here, the provincial minister directed the departments concerned to finalise the programme regarding the ceremonies of Independence Day (I-Day). He said that the 70th Independence Day of Pakistan would be celebrated in a befitting manner throughout the country. Ceremonies and other programmes would be held at the provincial, divisional, district and tehsil levels. He said that heroes of Pakistan would be paid rich tribute at the August 14 ceremonies.
Walled City Authority Director General Kamran Lashari gave briefing to the meeting. Provincial Ministers Hamida Waheedud Din and Khalil Tahir Sindhu were also present.
