Nab arrests former bank manager for fraud

LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore arrested a former manager of a private bank on the charges of embezzlement of Rs11.77 million.

According to a NAB spokesman, the accused identified as Mushtaq Ahmed had been absconder since 2007. The spokesman said NAB Lahore received embezzlement complaint against Mushtaq and an inquiry was authorised regarding corruption and corrupt practices. It was revealed that the accused was operating five fictitious accounts in the name of bogus account holders and transferred hefty amounts into these accounts by allegedly using demand, finance and loan facilities, he added.

The spokesman said, later, the accused by sniffing non-favourable circumstances managed to abscond whereas NAB Lahore filed a reference in Accountability Court in 2008. Subsequently, the accused was declared proclaimed offender by the court. NAB Lahore Tuesday arrested Mushtaq Ahmed from Lahore and acquired 10-day physical remand for further investigations.

Accidents: Total 669 road crashes were reported in the provincial monitoring cell of the Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all 37 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours in which three lives were lost and 554 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts and tehsils. However, some 199 victims who sustained minor injuries were discharged on the spot after giving them first aid by emergency medical teams.

Lectures: Teams of Road Safety Unit delivered road safety lectures to drivers here on Tuesday. The teams visited the cab stand at Lorri Adda, a filling station at Shahdara and other bus stands and delivered lectures to drivers on road safety.

Valuables: National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) have set an example of honesty by tracing Rs Rs 100,000, gold ornaments and a mobile phone and handing them over to their owner.
The guidance centres of Motorway Police Central Zone Help Line 130 received a call from a road user, Kaleem Arshad, that he had lost his valuables in a bus. On receiving information, Patrol Officers Muhammed Abbas and Muhammed Ashraf of Beat 15, Sahiwal, traced the bag from a bus and handed over the bag containing Rs 100,000, gold ornaments, a mobile phone and official files to the owner.
