Food inspection

The Punjab government has established a large number of independent and autonomous authorities for ensuring improvement in different sectors of the country. The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) is one such institution which ensures that people get pure, hygienic and safe food in hotels, restaurants, canteens, etc. PFA officials are carrying out raids on food items manufacturing and suppliers outlets almost every day.

The PFA is virtually working round the clock, carrying out raids and inspecting outlets of food items manufacturers and suppliers and imposing heavy fines on outlets that are serving food items that are unfit for human consumption. PFA officials are neither compromising in any manner nor withstanding any pressure whatsoever. All this is quite appreciable and good. Now, the provincial government has decided to extend PFA operations to the entire province. In the same way, it would be appreciable if the PFA is also given powers to check prices of food items at posh hotels and restaurants. It should ensure that eatable items at these places are not being sold at exceptionally high prices.
