No transparency

By our correspondents
July 20, 2017

This is to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to the serious issue of the university administration’s sheer violation of merit and transparency during a selection process for positions of lecturers in different departments at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro. It was surprising to see that the students who scored less in written tests were declared successful while those with high marks and considerable work experience were disqualified. It is sad that for more than a decade, the provincial government has been famous for discouraging merit-based jobs and has never taken efforts to provide opportunity to the competent and eligible candidates. Widespread nepotism and favouritism has resulted in inefficiency and bad-governance. .

The appointments of ineligible people to important positions in different government departments have tarnished the image of these institutions. The recent Combined Competitive Exam-2013 case provides evidence to the fact that large scale anomalies were found in the appointments of commission members. It is widely believed that education is panacea for all malpractices and ill-wills of society. On this basis, universities are the best platform to provide quality education and equip students with new learning experiences. We think that if such irregularities continue with political appointments of people at high echelons in education institutes of Sindh, it would certainly malign our society in the long run.
