Rainwater causes traffic jam
LAHORE :Heavy but scattered rain hit the city here Thursday while Met office predicted more rains in the next 24 hours.
Following the rain, several major city roads witnessed traffic jams as rainwater inundated the roads. Shadman, Shah Jamal, Muslim Town, Township, Green Town, Ichhara, Iqbal Town, Wapda Town, Johar Town, Thokar Niaz Baig, TECH Society, Punjab University, Faisal Town and the adjacent areas received heavy to moderate rain in different hours of the day.
Met office said seasonal low lies over north Balochistan while monsoon currents are penetrating upper/central parts of the country and likely to continue during next 48 hours. They added a westerly wave is affecting upper parts of the country.
They predicted that more rain-thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eastern Balochistan, Islamabad, Fata, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir while isolated heavy falls are also expected and light rain/drizzle is also expected at a few places along Sindh coast.
On Thursday, rain-thunderstorm (with isolated heavy falls) occurred at a number of places in Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, while at isolated places in Karachi divisions and Balochistan. Rainfall was recorded in several cities, including Islamabad (ZP 103mm, Saidpur 76mm, Golra 52mm, Bokra 35mm), Rawalpindi (Shamsabad 97mm, Chaklala 70mm), Mandi Bahauddin (83mm), Gujranwala (61mm), Sialkot (47mm), Murree and Faisalabad (46mm), Gujrat (35mm), Jhelum (31mm), Mangla
(24mm), Okara (23mm), Bahawalnagar and DG Khan (20mm), Multan (12mm), Chakwal and Kamra (09mm), Kot Addu (07mm), Jhang, Toba Tek Singh (04mm), Bahawalpur and Bhakkar (02mm), Joharabad and Mianwali (01mm), Muzaffarabad (61mm), Garhi Dupatta (33mm), Rawalakot (15mm), Kotli (12mm), Peshawar (44mm), Malam Jabba (33mm), Cherat (32mm), D.I Khan (21mm), Kakul (17mm), Balakot (07mm), Kalam (07mm), Saidu Sharif (04mm), Kohat (02mm), Pattan, Bannu and Risalpur (01mm), Barkhan (09mm), Zhob (06mm), Khuzdar (03mm), Ormara (02mm), Gupis (05mm), Gilgit (03mm), Bunji and Astore (02mm), Skardu (01mm) and Karachi (01mm).
Thursday's maximum temperature was recorded at Dalbandin where mercury reached 45°C while in Lahore it was 31°C, minimum was 24°C and humidity in the morning was 72 percent.
