MQM rejects ‘weak’ judicial commission

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement rejected on Saturday a judicial commission comprising retired judges for investigating the extra-judicial killing of MQM workers.
The party demanded that a commission comprising a sitting judge of the Sindh High Court be formed.
Speaking to the media at a ceremony held to mourn the deaths in Shikarpur blast, In-charge MQM Coordination committee Qamar Mansoor said that during a meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a day earlier the party had demanded a sitting high court judge be appointed as the judicial commission head to probe the killings of party activists.
“But it seems the government is not serious with the issue and its attitude proves that there is no capable policeman who can monitor the law and order situation,” he said, adding that biased and prejudiced police officials were being appointed.
He said many MQM workers were first arrested by law enforcers and later their tortured bodies were found, adding even a judicial magistrate denied that Faraz Alam, an MQM worker, was tortured to death.
“We appeal to the prime minister that he should write letter to the Chief Justice Supreme Court to appoint a sitting judge for the commission,” Mansoor said.
The MQM leader said statements and claims of the Sindh chief minister were hollow and had no credibility. “Pakistan People’s Party is losing support in interior parts of Sindh,” he said, reiterating the MQM supported the Karachi operation and will continue supporting it but, “unfortunately our workers being targeted.”
Mansoor expressed sorrow and grief with the aggrieved families of Shikarpur, saying MQM will stand by them in their hard times.

IGP visit
Sindh police chief Ghulam Haider Jamali visited the house of deceased MQM worker Sohail Ahmed and assured the bereaved family of a transparent investigation, PPI reported.
Jamali also announced an investigation team to be headed by an additional inspector general (AIGP), to probe Sohail’s murder.
