Progress in Science Talent Farming Scheme reviewed

An inter-ministerial steering committee on Wednesday examined the progress on the Science Talent Farming Scheme for 1800 Young Students (Phase-I) and expressed satisfaction about it. It was the second meeting of the committee that was organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology here.

Minister for Science and Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain chaired the meeting, where Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Balighur Rehman, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Chairman of the Pakistan Science Foundation Prof Muhammad Ashraf, STFS Project Director Jamil Qureshi and finance, science and technology, planning and education and professional training secretaries and relevant officials were also in attendance.

The participants discussed the establishment of the National Science School under the Government’s Vision 2025 and issues related to it. The scheme is meant designed to be implemented through the collaborative efforts of the relevant institutions and science enthusiasts in the public and private sectors.

The main goals of STFS are attracting youth towards science in early years of education, developing a competitive knowledge economy through value addition and improving the quality of science and technology education particularly in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

The officials told participants that the PSF would manage the STFS up to higher secondary level, whereas the Higher Education Commission would be responsible for university level under the scheme.
