Graveyards remain in poor state of cleanliness

Rawalpindi : The graveyards and in the words of a number of citizens, the dead ones once again failed to get attention of the concerned authorities responsible for cleanliness on Eid days.

Majority of graveyards particularly the ones located in congested city areas remained in poor state of cleanliness even on Eid days and the visitors witnessed heaps of garbage in and around graveyards.

The heavy rainfall on ‘Chand raat’ made the situation worse and the soil in graveyards turned into filthy mud that was much irritating for those who visited there to offer ‘fateha’ on the graves of their loved ones.

In Pakistan, it is a tradition to visit graveyards on the festive occasion of Eid to say ‘fateha’ on the graves of their dear-ones. Soon after Fajar prayer on the first day of every Eid, the graveyards are filled with visitors.

A number of employees of Rawalpindi Waste Management Company were witnessed busy in removing filth and garbage at the time of dawn on Eid day but from outside graveyards only and a little attention was given to cleanliness inside the graveyards.

Majority of people visiting graveyards on the festive occasion of Eid expect them to be extra-ordinary clean and organized like their ‘mohallahs’ and streets but it seems to be a desire that cannot be fulfilled, said Muhammad Hussain Atif, a visitor to Qadeem Qabristan in Dhoke Khabba area.

According to many visitors in Jadeed Qabristan in Dhoke Elahi Bux and Qadeem Qabristan in Dhoke Khabba area, the heaps of garbage in and around graveyards are because of the ignorance of concerned authorities and the residents as well because nobody shows concern on the subject.

‘The graveyards must be in ideal condition on the subject of cleanliness and a great attention should be given to removal of garbage and filth inside the area’ is the stance of a number of visitors to graveyards. On the poor condition of cleanliness in graveyards, one must think that dead cannot speak for themselves and it is public that has to raise voice for cleanliness of graveyards.
