Rs1 million donated to GCU
LAHORE An eminent businessman, Mian Asad Bashir, on Friday donated Rs01 million to the Government College University’s Endowment Fund Trust (GCU-EFT) for initiating a perpetual golden scholarship for the financially-challenged students.
According to a press release, the scholarship would be given to a deserving student every year on merit and would cover his/her university fee as well as the hostel expenses. Mian Asad Bashir handed over the donation cheque to Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah at GCU, while GCU-EFT Executive Committee Secretary Prof Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt was also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Mian Asad Bashir said unfortunately he was not a Ravian, but he had great trust in working of GCU and its Endowment Fund. This is the third golden scholarship initiated by Mian Asad Bashir.
Prof Butt said Government College University was the only public sector university in Pakistan which had an active endowment fund giving scholarships to deserving students. He said costs of education were rising every year and collective efforts were required to help the brilliant students of the society who could not afford their academic expenses.
