High prices spoil joy of Eid shopping
Rawalpindi: Blaming the government for showing least interest in facilitating the masses the visitors at the markets and commercial centres are in gloomy mood due to skyrocketing prices of Eid related products.
"Astonishingly, there is an unprecedented level of price hike that was not witnessed in the recent years. The shopkeepers have increased prices of garments, shoes, artificial jewellery and other products on their own, least bothering over its impact on the common people," said Shahida Parveen, a visitor at Saddar Market.
She said it seems that the government has no interest in providing relief to the people because no one is monitoring the current price hike that has made it difficult to buy new products for the upcoming Eid.
It is pertinent to mention here that a large number of women and youth are visiting 'Landa Bazaar' to purchase second-hand pieces of clothes, shoes, shirts, suits and others essentials on cheaper rates.
Sareer Khan, a shopkeeper at Bara Market, said the parents particularly women who cannot please their children by buying quality products have adopted a novel way to pacify their children by opting to go for substandard items in the market. He said although shopping for these items, particularly on such occasions has never been a new phenomenon for womenfolk, it is seen that more and more women are going for low-quality and sub-standard products this time.
