Family seeks shelter after being evicted

from home by father

LANDIKOTAL: A 12-year old boy who was evicted from home by their father along with his mother, three sisters and brother has appealed to the government to provide them shelter.  Speaking to journalists at the Landikotal Press Club on Friday, Mohibullah said that his father forced them out of their house in Fatimikhel village 13 days ago.  He said his father Majid Khan is a drug addict and jobless. He added that on the first of the holy month of Ramazan, his father fought with their mother and then kicked them out of home.  “Though we contacted our relatives, majority of them refused to give us shelter,” he said.  Mohibullah said that due to extreme poverty, he and his brother abandoned schooling and started working to earn in Landikotal bazaar.

 

QAU syndicate orders inquiry

Islamabad: The Quaid-i-Azam University's syndicate has ordered an inquiry against chairperson of the Department of Earth Sciences Professor Mona Lisa over the alleged administrative irregularities. A three-member committee will hold the inquiry and submit report to the syndicate, the university’s top decision-making body.  Barrister Zafarullah Khan will head the committee, while Major (r) Tahir Iqbal, Dr Waqar Shah, Dr Tassavar Hayat and a nominee of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training will be its members.  Professor Mona Lisa faces the charges of discriminating against faculty members, making illegal appointments to the department, seizing laboratory goods, closing the lab during a visit of foreign delegation, and getting abolished the Mari Gas Company Limited chair established to help bridge the academia-industry gap.

 

Resumption of Peshawar-Karachi cargo train sought

LANDIKOTAL: The Pak-Afghan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PAJCCI) has asked the federal government to resume Peshawar-Karachi cargo train service.  Talking to reporters here on Saturday, PAJCCI senior vice-president Ziaul Haq Sarhadi said that export cargo train from Peshawar to Karachi had been halted since 2008. He said hundreds of youth working with customs clearance agents and freight forwarding agencies have lost their jobs.  Sarhadi said transportation of export goods has dropped due to the suspension of cargo train service from Peshawar.  He asked the federal government to resume cargo train service so that they could transport goods from Peshawar to Karachi.

 

Pemra bans advertisement

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra)on Friday imposed ban on the telecast of Q-Mobilephone E-1.   It was observed during the monitoring that in the said advertisement indecent content was used which was not accepted standards of ethics and against the Pemra rules and regulations. Therefore, the Pemra banned the telecast of the said advertisement from June 10 at 6:00pm.  The channels violating this ban would face action under Pemra Ordinance 2002 (amendment act 2007), sections 29and 30.

 

 

 

Man kills brother, sister in Mardan

MARDAN: A man allegedly shot dead his brother and sister over a land dispute in the Landaki area in the limits of Hoti Police Station on Saturday, the police said. The official of Hoti Police Station said that the accused identified as Abdul Jabbar along his accomplice opened fire on his brother Muhammad Tariq Khan and sister Shahida, leaving them seriously injured.  Both of them succumbed to their injuries inside their home before arrival of the personnel of Rescue-1122. The locals said that both the brothers, the killer and the deceased, had been contesting court cases relating to land dispute against each other for the last couple of years. The Hoti Police Station had lodged a first information report (FIR) on the complaint of Ameer Taimur Khan, son of the deceased Tariq Khan, against the alleged killers Abdul Jabbar Khan and his unknown accomplice.

Major terror bid foiled in Kohlu

QUETTA: Security forces foiled a major terror bid and recovered huge cache of weapons, explosives and mortar shells during a search operation in Kohlu area of Balochistan.  On a tip-off, the security forces raided a hideout of a proscribed outfit' in Kahan area of Kohlu district on Saturday and seized huge cache of weapons, explosives including mortar shells.  The security forces personnel recovered 39 mortar shells, 12 mines, five ATM and 11 AMM fuses.

 

House robbed in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: A group of robbers forced their entry into a house in Muhammad Khan Koroona in limits of the Risalpur Police Station on Saturday and decamped with gold ornaments and other valuables, police said.  They said the robbers barged into a house of one Nasir, took the family members hostage at gunpoint and took away 12 tolas of gold ornaments and other valuables.  Meanwhile, one Muhammad Hanif reported to the Risalpur Police Station that unidentified thieves broke the locks of his shop and took away two refrigerators on Friday night.  The police registered separate cases and started investigation.

       

Man shot dead in DI Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A man was killed and his brother sustained injuries when unidentified gunmen fired at them in Draban area on Saturday, police said.  They said that Niamatullah and his brother Sher Khan were present at their field in Gramada area when unidentified gunmen fired at them.  As a result, Sher Khan was killed on the spot while Niamatullah sustained injuries. The accused managed to flee the scene. The body and the injured were taken to the hospital where condition of the injured was stated to be stable. The body, after autopsy in the hospital, was handed over to the family members for burial. The police registered the case and started investigation.
